Dinner Tonight Scheduled

Grab your friends and join us for food and fun at the Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School, which will be presented by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service on September 15, from 6:00pm-8:00pm at First United Methodist Church Family Life Center at 112 N. Travis Street in Cameron, Texas. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

“While there are many groups who conduct cooking schools, we believe the Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School has a unique niche,” said Dr. Susan Ballabina, Associate Director for Program Development for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

“During the cooking school, everyone will see demonstrations of quick and easy-to-make recipes from the  Dinner Tonight Cookbook. The unique cookbook contains meal plans and all the recipes, including entrées, sides, and desserts – perfect for busy families. We are targeting busy people who still want to make time for meal preparation and feel good about what they are feeding themselves and their family. Our goals are to promote family mealtime, teach families healthy meal planning and food preparation techniques, and promote Texas agriculture.

All participants will receive a cookbook, gift bag full of kitchen goodies, and a chance to win door prizes. The cost of the event is $25 in advance. Pre-registration is required one week prior to the event. Space is limited to the first 45 persons.  Register by mail or in person at the Milam County Extension Office – 100 E. 1st Street, Cameron, Texas 76520.  For additional information, contact the Extension Office.

Sign-up for the cooking school and enjoy lots of food ideas.  The recipes in the program are cost effective, easy to prepare, and fit into a healthy meal plan. They taste good, too!!!

Recipe from 2014 Dinner Tonight Recipe Book:

Caprese Salad

Ingredients:

  • 6 ounces fresh mozzarella, cubed
  • 1 (10 ounce) basket cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cup torn fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of Balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Pepper to taste

Serves 4.

Directions:

  1. Toss together the mozzarella, cherry tomatoes,

basil, olive oil and balsamic vinegar in a large

bowl.

  1. Season with salt and pepper.
